On a glorious Friday 26th August, we hosted our annual Don Memorial Cup on its 130th anniversary.
Teams from as far as Felixstowe Ferry and as close as Royal Mid Surrey along with The Army, Ipswich, Hayling, Neville, Coombe Hill, Royal Winchester, Hadley Wood, Puttenham, The RAC and Hockley contested the Centenary Salver team event and the individual Don Cup itself. TRGC and The Stage Golfing Society also had teams entered.
Conditions and course were perfect and many compliments were received by our guests. These were also extended to our band of ambassadors on the day – members of our club who look after our guests.
Teams started coming in and assembling in Tom’s Bar, out the front of the Clubhouse, around 1ish for a few post round beers before moving through to the marquee for lunch. After a very splendid ham hock tureen, lamb rump & garlic risotto and whatever that fantastic chocolate dessert was our guests had a short welcoming speech from The Captain, then the results.
The Centenary Salver
The Centenary Salver is the team event and this year both The Stage and TRGC were podium finishers. Best two from three nett rounds score.

The Don Memorial Cup
On to The Don Cup itself, the history of which you can find here. This is a gross medal competition and in third place with a 71 was Richard Harris of Hayling, winner from two years ago. Runner-up with a score of 70 was Haydn Reay from The Army
Our 2025 Champion was James Tyler from Ipswich with a 69. Having previously been pipped an couple of times on countback James was delighted to eventually win the trophy.

We bid a fond farewell to our lovely Ladies’ Captain, Lucia Albrecht, at her Farewell Lunch on Tuesday 10th March.
Lucia’s charity for her year was Richmond Aid, a charity run by and for disabled people in the local area, supporting them to lead independent lives with the same opportunities as non-disabled people.
At the lunch, Lucia was proud to present them with a cheque for £23,100.
This fantastic amount was raised through various events during the year, with many thanks to all our members for their support and kind generosity.
Lucia will now hand over to Nicky Russell, who will become the new Ladies’ Captain after our AGM on 17th March 2026.
On Friday, February 27th 112 Club Members and guests attended the annual Captain’s Farewell Dinner. During his year in office, Captain Ron Lay’s charity was Momentum, a local charity who support families across Southwest London, Surrey and Sussex whose children are receiving treatment for Cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
When elected as Captain, Bill Boucher’s chosen charity for 2026/27 will be Ruils. They are a locally based charity whose mission is to support those with disabilities to live independently. They are close to his heart as have really helped his family, and many, many others.
We look forward to raising as much as possible during Bill’s term
