All in aid of Shooting Stars Children’s Hospices
Tuesday morning saw a very thundery dawn with pouring rain. Les and the team were out first thing preparing the course for the Ladies Captain’s Charity Day and whilst the worse was being feared for the shot gun start, the big man was on our side, the heavens cleared and the field was off without delay.
As ever the course was magnificent and provided a great test of skill, mixed with a bit of luck, but mostly about how many Mulligans you bought!
Golf followed with a scrumptious lunch, with the live auction, silent auction, heads or tails, and raffle raising a load of money for the Ladies Captain’s charity <a href=”https://www.shootingstar.org.uk” target=”_blank” ><span style=”color: #ff8500;”>Shooting Stars Children’s Hospices</a>
Shooting Stars are a leading children’s hospice charity caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families across Surrey and West London. From diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement, they are there for the families they support with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care.
It costs over £10 million a year to run Shooting Star’s hospices with just 30% of funding coming from the government, they rely on supporters’ generosity to keep the service running so well done to all who attended, bid, bought mulligans, and contributed
Whether lives are measured in days, weeks, months, or years, they exist to make every moment count.
We bid a fond farewell to our lovely Ladies’ Captain, Lucia Albrecht, at her Farewell Lunch on Tuesday 10th March.
Lucia’s charity for her year was Richmond Aid, a charity run by and for disabled people in the local area, supporting them to lead independent lives with the same opportunities as non-disabled people.
At the lunch, Lucia was proud to present them with a cheque for £23,100.
This fantastic amount was raised through various events during the year, with many thanks to all our members for their support and kind generosity.
Lucia will now hand over to Nicky Russell, who will become the new Ladies’ Captain after our AGM on 17th March 2026.
On Friday, February 27th 112 Club Members and guests attended the annual Captain’s Farewell Dinner. During his year in office, Captain Ron Lay’s charity was Momentum, a local charity who support families across Southwest London, Surrey and Sussex whose children are receiving treatment for Cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
When elected as Captain, Bill Boucher’s chosen charity for 2026/27 will be Ruils. They are a locally based charity whose mission is to support those with disabilities to live independently. They are close to his heart as have really helped his family, and many, many others.
We look forward to raising as much as possible during Bill’s term
Our 2025 Champion was James Tyler from Ipswich with a 69. Having previously been pipped an couple of times on countback James was delighted to eventually win the trophy.
